About us

The Pearl Street Technologies team's mission is to accelerate the transition to a reliable, decarbonized grid. Pearl Street Technologies was acquired into the Power & Energy Transition team at Enverus. We deliver software solutions to electric grid operators, utilities, and renewable energy project developers to tackle the "interconnection bottleneck," the process by which large-scale solar, wind, and battery projects connect to the power grid. To date, over 500 billion watts' worth of renewable energy projects have been modeled in our software to expedite their interconnection to the grid – equivalent to nearly 1200 million solar panels, 50 billion LEDs, or 650 million horses! If you are interested in solving the most pressing challenges of the world's most critical infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you!

The Pearl Street Technologies team is located in Pittsburgh, PA, and this role is an in-office position based in Pittsburgh.

What you'll do

We're seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to build and enhance the Interconnect© and SUGAR™ applications. Improving these applications helps our customers successfully study and deploy renewable energy projects to the power grid. You'll work across the entire user-facing stack—designing intuitive user interfaces and ensuring seamless frontend-backend integration. You'll own features end-to-end, from UI mockup through API design, database schema, testing, and deployment.

You will play a leading role in developing new features, enhancements, and improvements to the user experience of our applications:

  • Develop intuitive and responsive Next.js/React interfaces with complex geospatial visualization (Mapbox) and complex data dashboards for technical simulation and optimization analyses
  • Build performant data grids and visualizations (MUI X, Vega-Lite) handling large datasets to visualize and manipulate power grid and renewable energy project data
  • Build and maintain REST APIs to support the frontend, including efficient endpoints for complex data queries
  • Integrate with gRPC services from our data and computational backends
  • Extend and maintain our existing testing (Cypress, Playwright, Vitest, Pytest) for new features and improvements
  • Debug issues across the full request/response cycle; recommend architecture improvements
  • Design API contracts that are intuitive for the frontend and optimized for efficient communication
  • Containerize features with Docker for deployment to AWS infrastructure
  • Collaborate with domain experts in energy/power systems to translate requirements into software
  • Your work will help energy projects navigate the interconnection process faster and more reliably.

What we value

  • 5+ years of production experience with React/Next.js or similar frontend frameworks (TypeScript/Javascript experience required)
  • 3+ years with Django or a similar backend framework (Python experience required)
  • Familiarity with Material-UI (MUI), Mapbox GL, GeoJSON, data visualization (e.g. Vega-Lite), and modern React component libraries a plus
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and utilizing gRPC services
  • Strong PostgreSQL and relational database design skills, experience with performance optimization in data-heavy applications
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized development along with Kubernetes, including deployment to AWS
  • Strong experience with Git/GitHub and cloud-based CI/CD workflows
  • Skilled with automated UI testing frameworks (Cypress, Playwright) and unit testing (Pytest, Vitest)
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and/or STEM degree preferred
  • A passion for learning, teaching, and building beautiful software and cloud infrastructure

Interview Process

  • Company intro + candidate experience overview w/ Head of Engineering team (30-45 min)
  • Technical challenge w/ senior engineer(s) involving hands-on-keyboard problem solving (1 hour)
  • Full Engineering Team Interview (In-Person)
